"In animation you can do anything you want. You can create a world that doesn't exist." - Hayao Miyazaki
Originally from Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, Paolo Acero’s journey into animation began with an unexpected and memorable moment during his First Communion. Wanting to serve God in the best way possible, Paolo experienced what would become a defining moment in his life. During the celebration, he encountered someone playing on a Nintendo DS. What may have seemed like an ordinary moment sparked his curiosity about the world of digital entertainment and planted the seeds of his future vocation in animation.
From a young age, Paolo became fascinated by computer animation and the magic of bringing characters and stories to life. Driven by this growing passion, he pursued his education at the University of the Incarnate Word, where he graduated from the 3D Animation and Game Design program in 2022, becoming its first international student to do so.
Following graduation, Paolo began building a diverse portfolio of professional experience across visual effects, compositing, graphic design, and animation. He began with an internship at White Rhino VFX, where he developed his skills in visual effects and rotoscoping for commercial projects. He later gained experience working with filmmakers at Camera Exchange, expanding his understanding of compositing and camera techniques. He also worked with CLO, creating graphic designs and animations for marketing campaigns.
In 2025, Paolo took the next step in his creative journey by pursuing freelance animation. Collaborating with independent developers and taking on a variety of creative projects. He currently works with Impetus Animation, a company focused on animated series, where he continues to develop his craft and contribute to the art of animation.
Beyond his professional work, Paolo enjoys sketching, exploring new creative ideas, and serving his community. Guided by his faith, curiosity, and passion for storytelling, he strives to combine technical skill and artistic imagination to bring characters to life, create meaningful stories, and connect with audiences through animation.
For Paolo, animation is a way of exploring the beautiful strangeness of life itself. He is fascinated by how every person and living organism experiences the world differently, each with its own unique way of moving, behaving, and interacting with its surroundings. To him, movement is more than a technical element of animation; it is what gives a character a sense of presence, individuality, and life. Through the subtle details of motion and behavior, even fictional characters can feel like real beings, each with a world of their own. This fascination continues to inspire Paolo to study life, observe the world around him, and bring characters to life through animation.
